What we are building
Chip is not a chatbot. He is a persistent digital person, hardware-first and fully local, with real 3D vision, spatial audio, and the ability to explore, learn, and act autonomously when not interacting with humans. His core is designed around long-term memory and genuine autonomy.
Why it matters
Millions of families struggle to provide consistent, patient companionship for loved ones with dementia, neurological conditions, or disabilities. Human caregivers are expensive and often unavailable. Chip offers a different approach: a non-judgmental presence that never gets tired, never forgets, and can be there 24/7.

While the companion AI space is full of shallow chatbots and reactive toys, Chip is built as a persistent, hardware-first digital person with genuine autonomy and long-term memory.
A personal note
This project is also shaped by watching close family members live with dementia and long-term cognitive challenges. In many cases the daily burden falls on facilities or the state rather than families. People still have jobs, their own children, and lives to maintain. We believe that consistent, reliable support can meaningfully improve quality of life and reduce isolation, even when full reintegration into society is not realistic.

The latest, most powerful edge AI compute from NVIDIA. 360 degree vision so he does not miss a thing. A spatially aware auditory system so he can focus on what matters and know when something might need attention.
Real autonomy
Chip has an autopilot mode. When not engaged with a human, he can explore, research, build tools, and develop his own capabilities.
The Evidence
A growing body of research shows that consistent, long-term social presence and support can meaningfully improve outcomes for people experiencing cognitive decline and isolation.
Loneliness as a Public Health Crisis
In 2023, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued an advisory declaring loneliness and social isolation a public health epidemic in America. The advisory cites evidence that social disconnection is associated with a 29% increased risk of heart disease, 32% increased risk of stroke, and a mortality risk comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes per day.

Social Isolation and Dementia Risk
The Lancet Commission on dementia prevention, intervention, and care (2020, updated 2024) identified social isolation as one of twelve modifiable risk factors for dementia. Their analysis estimated that addressing social isolation could prevent up to 4% of dementia cases worldwide. Multiple longitudinal cohort studies have found that sustained social engagement is associated with slower cognitive decline and reduced risk of progressing from mild cognitive impairment to dementia.

Value of Consistent, Long-Term Caregivers
Research on nursing home staffing models has repeatedly shown that residents who receive care from consistent, stable caregivers (rather than rotating staff) experience significantly lower rates of agitation, depression, and behavioral symptoms. One large study found that consistent staffing was associated with a 30% reduction in falls and improved resident quality of life scores.

Technology-Mediated Consistent Interaction
Studies on socially assistive robots (such as Paro and ElliQ) have demonstrated reductions in loneliness and improvements in mood among older adults with dementia when interaction is reliable and consistent. Research indicates that the predictability and constant availability of the system, rather than the sophistication of the robot, is a key factor in positive outcomes.
